Greater Franklin County Digital Literacy Instructor

This unique grant-funded position offers a collaborative opportunity, working in partnership with Greater Franklin Economic Development, Franklin County Adult Education, and Spruce Mountain Adult Education, known as the Greater Franklin Digital Literacy Initiative. The role involves providing digital literacy instruction to residents within Franklin County, Livermore, and Livermore Falls. The grant’s objectives include offering one-to-one instruction for adult learners who wish to explore and navigate the digital world, building partnerships with local non-profits, libraries, and agencies to create awareness of the digital literacy initiative, as well as creating sustainable solutions using education to assist greater Franklin County residents with understanding new programs, apps, and devices.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ability to facilitate learning opportunities for adult learners to acquire basic computer skills and incrementally advance the learners’ knowledge
2. Willingness to work with all students in a respectful and supportive manner
3. CHRC Approval from the Maine Department of Education
4. Excellent organizational skills
5. Strong customer service skills
6. Ability to work independently and in a team environment
7. Working knowledge of MSOffice, Google Suite, Internet, email, Zoom, and Social Media
as well as Mac OSX, Windows 10, IOS, Google Chrome, and Android
8. Excellent oral and written communication skills
9. Valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation
10. Bachelor’s degree and Maine teaching certification a plus
11. Understanding or willingness to learn adult education and learning theories

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide in-person instruction for community members learning computer basics
2. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
3. Use technology to enhance the learning environment.
4. Recruit and schedule students for and help market the program to the community
5. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of established learner goals
6. Assess the accomplishments of students
7. Assist in the collection of student and program data, including attendance, progress, and
proficiency
8. Coordinate with other instructors and staff on student progress and goals
9. Attends adult education staff meetings, professional development, and state-led training

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a year-round position, up to 35 hours a week, following school breaks, except summer vacation with a health benefit package. The position’s continuation from year to year is contingent upon adequate grant funding and successfully meeting benchmarks set forth by our funders. This position requires extensive travel throughout Franklin County. Mileage reimbursement is allowable at the current federal rate. Starting hourly pay: $25

  • Jay to become a mill town once again
    John Godfrey of Godfrey Forest Products announced at a news conference Friday that he plans to manufacture oriented strand board, similar to particleboard, and bring about 125 jobs to the site of the former Androscoggin Mill on Riley Road. The side of the mill closest to state Route 4, where the digester ruptured at Pixelle Specialty Solutions in April 2020, will be torn down and a new 300,000-square-foot facility will be built. Godfrey said the investment would be in the hundreds of millions.
